The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the right materials. Strong, durable boxes are a must—ask your mover for prices on their materials as these will be up to the required standard.

Make sure you tape the bottom and top of each box, and fill them but not too heavily: if you can’t lift it yourself, how will your movers?

Be sure to label the box with a brief description of it’s contents as well as the room in which you would like it to be taken to.

When packing valuable or delicate items such as glassware, china and ornaments etc be sure to use plenty of packaging materials to protect the items. Try to fill spaces and voids with extra packing paper or bubble wrap to avoid movement within the box.

Wardrobe boxes are perfect for transporting clothes on hangers. Heirs provide wardrobe boxes for use on every move. We’ll even pack and unpack them for you.

We advise customers to leave clothing inside of chest of drawers. We will usually remove the drawers before moving and then replace them once inside the vehicle. Just remember to remove any personal items or things that may break or spill and pack them into a box.

Finally, why not ask Heirs for a packing quote? We can pack your whole house removing the stress that packing can cause. We will supply all of the materials needed and the contents of the boxes would also be covered by our insurance. Unfortunately movers insurance doesn’t cover the contents of boxes not packed by a professional mover. This is because all of our staff are trained on how to pack to a high standard and we can not guarantee that standard if a box is not packed by us.
