About us – Our Extraordinary Story
When it comes to removals in Portsmouth, we are seasoned experts with decades of experience. Currently, Richard Heir, a fourth-generation professional in the moving industry, oversees the company. The legacy of providing reliable removals in Portsmouth goes back even further, to Richard’s great-grandfather, who was actively involved in moving people long before the variety of modern removal vehicles we use today was available.
In those early days, the primary mode of transportation for removals in Portsmouth was the humble horse and cart, a far cry from the specialised vans and trucks we operate now. That dedication and expertise have been passed down through the generations, allowing us to maintain a high standard of service for every customer. Today, we combine our long-standing experience with modern equipment to provide efficient, safe, and professional removals in Portsmouth for homes, offices, and businesses across the city.

We have a 30-year history in the business, established by a father and son duo – Gordon and Chris Heir. Prior to launching our company, both Gordon and Chris had hands-on industry experience. Chris specialised in relocating military personnel across Europe for a prominent national firm, whilst Gordon contributed his expertise at the same company but based in Portsmouth.
The knowledge and skills they acquired were priceless as they embarked on this venture. Our journey commenced as a modest enterprise, but our unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch service, bolstered by the wealth of experience held by Gordon and Chris, led to our rapid growth.
As he grew older, Richard became a full-time member of the ever-expanding team. However, this wasn’t his first encounter with the art of moving people as part of Heirs. Long before that, he had accompanied his father, Chris, during school breaks for several years. It was during these experiences that he developed his love for the business, observing how his father engaged with customers, managed the loading of vehicles, secured the transported goods, including the handling of grand pianos and a wide array of unique and fascinating furniture pieces. Once again, this wealth of knowledge and expertise was being passed down from one generation to the next.
Regrettably, both Chris and Gordon have since passed away, leaving Richard at the helm of the company for almost a decade now. Richard is committed to carrying on the legacy started all those years ago and passing down the knowledge he has to deliver an excellent service to our customers. So as you can see, Heir’s Of Portsmouth really is a true family business setting the standard for removals in Portsmouth.
